Karthiyani Amma, a 96-year-old woman from Kerala’s Alappuzha who in August became the oldest ‘student’ to appear for the ‘Aksharalaksham’ literacy program of Kerala State Literacy Mission has cleared her exam in flying colours.
She cleared the exam scoring 98 marks out of 100.
Karthiyani Amma worked as a domestic help and sweeper to bring up her six children following the death of her husband. She was inspired to take up learning by her daughter who at the age of 60 cleared her Class X equivalent a couple of years ago.
